Welcome to the first issue of the Massivemuscle.net Newsletter. I have compiled a good assortment of information for this issue. Enjoy!

1. Shoulder Workout designed by Ian King:

I found this shoulder workout from a new magazine Mind & Muscle Power (the 2nd issue). I decided to try this workout because I have read Ian King's work before on the Testosterone website at http://www.t-mag.com and I liked his workout ideas.

The key to this workout is to take every working set to failure. It is best to have a spotter so that you can use a weight which will make the last 2 reps of each set forced reps. This is important because there are not a lot of sets in this workout.

I scanned the workout routine so that you can print it out and take it with you to the gym. Click here to get it. http://www.massivemuscle.net/newsletter/shoulderworkout.JPG

2. Free Protein Information & Sample

Dorian Yates has expanded his supplement company to the United States. You may have seen his ProPeptide advertisement in Flex magazine. You can go to http://www.propeptide.com/freecd.htm to get a free CD or cassette called Myths vs. Truth.

The CD/cassette contains 20 minutes of Dorian Yates, Kerry Kayes and Brian Batcheldor discussing the facts they found about protein while creating ProPeptide. It is very informative and well worth 20 minutes of your time. Along with your CD or cassette, you will receive a sample of ProPeptide protein supplement.

I am not sure if they ship this outside the United States. If you are in Europe, you may want to check out the United Kingdom website for the free offer.

3. Supplement Tip: L-Glutamine

I received this tidbit of information from the above mentioned Myths vs. Truth CD.

Take L-Glutamine on an empty stomach. When it is taken with protein, the two supplements basically have to fight each other for absorption. The protein wins out, leaving the L-Glutamine in your stomach being wasted.

The best deal I have found for L-Glutamine is from DPS Nutrition at http://www.dpsnutrition.com . They sell Sports One and Eclipse brand products at very good prices. I would suggest getting their catalog because for me it is much easier to look at than their website.

4. Training Reminder: The Importance of Rest

Okay, here's the scoop. My training partner and I have been training very hard for quite a while now. Both of us are really starting to feel the affects. He has been telling me for quite some time to take a break. Well, that's easier said than done for me and I am sure that many of you are the same way. I finally found an excuse to take a week off training without feeling too bad about it. I am going to Indianapolis for the Brickyard 400 Nascar Winston Cup race the weekend of August 5. So I decided I am going to take that entire week off from weight training to live like a "normal" person.

FIRST: It is very important to take time off occasionally. Your body needs the time to recuperate. Even if you are not over-training, your body needs time to rest. It cannot just keep going at the same pace forever. You will eventually "hit a brick wall" and your progress will stop.

SECOND: It is a great way to shock your muscles. For example, I haven't taken any time off since the same mentioned weekend last year when I only skipped two days. So, I am sure you can imagine how sore and shocked my muscles will be when I first come back to the weight room a week later. If you keep it controlled by planning one-week layoffs from the weight room (two to three times per year), your body will thank you by continuing to respond to resistance training. Your mind will thank you by keeping you fired up to get in the weight room and give it your best.
